Art Walk 2025!
With so much in flux these days now seems like a good moment to reflect on the past year and plan for what the future might bring.
2024 was a year full of growth and new opportunities for The Art Walk Project and it ended strong. It unfolded a bit differently from some of the previous years with the focus turning to map expansion and redesigns and only one new art walk introduced, The Jamaica Plain Art Walk. Nevertheless the Art Walk Project did incredibly well throughout the year and that is largely due to the continued support from the community. So. Thank You. The Art Walk Project has expanded dramatically since its introduction in 2020 with engagement increasing by 60% over the last year and downloads increasing by 86%, a trend which helps fund the project and keep it up and running for everyone to use, I am optimistic that is a trend that will continue to grow but this truly a moment where only time will tell.
I also celebrated a year of collaboration with GBH’s The Culture Show which continues to be an amazing experience, and which resulted in the production of 11 segments where we discussed public art in Greater Boston area. There were also a few other partnerships and opportunities that evolved as the year rolled on. This included a creative cross country adventure in which I explored some incredible works of public art in different parts of the country. There was also a partnership with The Fenway Alliance, guest speaking at Massart and jurying an art show at the Attleboro Arts Museum.
Where is The Art Walk Project headed in 2025? With the current state of things it’s hard to even make an educated guess right now, there is just too much in flux. Forward momentum feels inevitable but the big question is how and when that will happen. Even with everything being so much more uncertain than previous years I have new ideas percolating and I am committed to continuing and hopefully expanding, this project for as long as I can. Where will that take it? I don’t know.
So, I can only thank everyone again for all your continued support and patronage it means so much to me and to this project. Without it The Art Walk Project would not have been as successful or as much fun as it has been to work on. I also want to thank all the artists whose skill and vision creates the work we see on our streets, along with all the organizations and people that help organize, produce and fund the art that we enjoy in our public spaces, without all of these people doing this work, The Art Walk Project would probably not exist at all.
I hope as the year goes on I will have more art walks and good news to share with you. In the meantime, Stay Creative and as always, Happy Art Walking!
